Growing nutritious food and empowering others to grow food for themselves and their family is what gets me up in the morning!
In 2020, Wild Hart Acres was born in the midst of Covid-19 and stay at home orders as food security became a very tangible concern. What began as a project in sharing abundant garden harvest with neighbors has turned into a mission to see Saginaw County thrive with nutritious food at its center.
The focus of the farm includes growing fresh microgreens, teaching others how to grow them at home with our Grow Your Own Microgreens Kits and growing cut flowers for bouquets.
April - November find our Farm stand stocked with microgreens, in-season vegetables, herbs, cut flower bouquets, farm fresh chicken eggs, raw honey and pure maple syrup.
WHAT ARE MICROGREENS?
Microgreens are edible green vegetables, fruits, flowers or herbs that are harvested shortly after sprouting. They are not sprouts. Sprouts are grown exclusively in water and are smaller in size. Microgreens are grown in the ground or on soil in trays. This gives them a higher nutrient value than sprouts. They also have a higher fiber content. Scientists see microgreens as a functional food, which means they provide key nutrients in a practical way. Some people call them a superfood.
Microgreens come in a small package but are BIG on flavor! They can be used raw in salads and sandwiches, blended in smoothies, and incorporated into cooked dishes. The possibilities are endless!
